Skin discolouration, hyperpigmentation, dark marks – they can take many forms. From small points to large spots. They can occur singly, but also in a larger aggregation. We observe them mainly on the face and hands, but they can appear almost anywhere. There are many reasons for them. Most often these are effects of acne or sunbathing. They may be also associated with age, hormonal disorders, including hyperthyroidism. In any case, discoloration is the result of a disorder in the work of melanin-producing cells.

Removal of hyperpigmentation and aesthetic medicine
Regardless of the cause of the hyperpigmentation, they can be most effectively removed using specialized treatments. However, identifying the factors that caused this problem is important for choosing the right procedure. Considering the type of discoloration, but also its size, colour and type of skin, you can choose one of the following treatments: Aquapure, Intraceuticals, Palomar Emerge Laser, GeneO +, Dermapen 3 / Mezopen, Retix C, Harmony XL PRO iPixel, Harmony XL PRO Dye VL, CO2 Smart Xide2 Laser, Harmony XL Pro Clearlift, Cosmelan / Dermamelan, needle mesotherapy, peels and microdermabrasion.
How to get rid of discolouration? Treatments are the answer!

Intraceuticals for dark marks

Palomar Emerge laser for hyperpigmentation

Palomar Emerge laser is a great solution for people struggling with various types of hyperpigmentation. The laser removes old, damaged cells, stimulating the skin to produce new ones. Due to such tissue reconstruction, pigmentation changes are eliminated – says Karolina Formela, cosmetologist Clinica Cosmetologica
Harmony XL PRO iPixel is a solution for dark marks
Another laser method that is effective in reducing discoloration is Harmony XL PRO iPixel Laser. Laser micro beams cause skin damage in selected places, which stimulates cells to intensify collagen and elastin synthesis. Renewed skin has a more even colourtone.
Harmony XL Pro Clearlift laser removes hyperpigmentation
Harmony XL Pro Clearlift is another laser used to eliminate hyperpigmentation. This is a non-ablative fractional laser that emits short high-energy pulses that cause controlled microdamages in the deeper layers of the skin. In response, the skin begins repair processes, resulting in its reconstruction. After regeneration, the skin is clearly brightened and free from hyperpigmentation.

Cosmelan / Dermamelan eliminate discoloration
Treatments using Cosmelan / Dermamelan preparations are highly effective in reducing discoloration. What’s more, you can safely perform it all year round. Treatment causes inhibition of tyrosinase, an enzyme necessary for the production of melanin, that is responsible for discoloration. The treatment consists of two key elements: the first is the application of a special mask by a dermatologist – after 8 hours we must rinse it at home. The second part is skin care at home. After finishing the treatment, discoloration is reduced by as much as 95%.
Needle mesotherapy for dark marks
Needle mesotherapy also eliminates dark marks. Through numerous injections with a thin needle, special nutritious cocktails are introduced into the skin. They contain properly selected, highly concentrated ingredients with brightening and regenerating effects. These ingredients reach the dermis, where they affect the metabolism of fibroblasts. After a series of treatments, the skin is brightened, its colour gets even and discoloration is less visible.

Acid peels for skin discolouration
Acid peels will also work to remove discolouration. In this case, the acid is selected for the type of discolouration as well as skin type. For hyperpigmentation it is best to use glycolic acid. In the case of sun discoloration, mandelic acid and “Piruvex” pyruvic 40% + lactic 10% would be great. The latter will also work for discoloration resulting from skin aging. Glycolic acid will also help in the fight against photoaging of the skin. Acids for hyperpigmentation work by removing old skin cells that are replaced with new tissues.
Microdermabrasion for dark marks
Microdermabrasion is another solution for dark marks. It is a procedure that may be performed on people of all skin types. Microdermabrasion will effectively remove acne and sun spots, as well as age spots. During the procedure mechanical abrasion of the upper layer of the epidermis is used. A special head wipes dead skin and then sucks grated skins.
Microdermabrasion is a good way to fight dark spots especially sun marks that may occur, e.g. in people with thyroid disease, hormonal disorders and people taking contraceptives, antibiotics or some non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs – says Natalia Munda, cosmetologist from Clinica Cosmetologica
Retix C for removing hyperpigmentation
Great way to remove existing hyperpigmentation is the Retix C treatment whose active ingredients are vitamin C, retinol and antioxidants. The treatment is applied as a mask. Active ingredients act on the old, dead skin, exfoliate and stimulate the skin to regenerate. After a peeling process that may last for several days skin becomes much brighter and its colour is even.

How hyperpigmentation is formed?
Discoloration is nothing but dark spots that appear on the skin. They are a symptom of an uneven distribution of melanin, which is most often due to excessive activity of melanocytes – melanin-producing cells. There may be many reasons behind this and recognizing them is very important for an effective treatment.
Types of hyperpigmentations
The most common type of hyperpigmentation are sunspots. We observe them as dark spots on face and body that appear in places exposed to the sun. They can be observed as discolouration on legs, arms, neckline and of course face. Their appearance is caused by not using sunblock, excessive sun exposure and the use of certain medications.
A common problem is also acne hyperpigmentation – more specifically, post-inflammatory dark marks. Initially, we observe them as red spots on the face – that means that there is still healing phase. Then the red spots turn into brown spots on the face.
Dark spots may also be associated with pregnancy and hormonal changes. These are usually chloasma. We observe them as brown spots that appear on the forehead and cheeks. After the age of 40 age spots also begin to appear.
However, we may also observe discolouration as white spots. In this case, melanocytes do not produce melanin. There can be several reasons for this. Most often it is the influence of some drugs or post-traumatic reaction.
Home remedies versus professional treatments
Although there are many cosmetics, creams etc. on the market that are designed to even out the skin tone, we are not able to effectively remove discoloration at home. Such cosmetics have a low concentration of brightening substances that only lightly even out the complexion making discolorations a little less visible. Cosmetological treatments remove the essence of the problem, acting not only superficially. They make the tissue structure deeply rebuilt and because of that the results are more visible and long-lasting.
